Sarawak To Host Mega Fair In Singapore By October |
SINGAPORE: Industry players from various sectors in Sarawak will be gathering in Singapore to showcase their products at the Sarawak Mega Fair 2025 scheduled to take place from October 16 to 19. According to the Chairman of Sarawak Trade, Investment and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS), Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, the inaugural mega fair will involve various state government agencies and private parties. He said the exhibition, which will be officiated by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, is targeting industry players from within and outside Singapore. "We will bring all sectors, agriculture, tourism, industry, furniture…we will bring them all here to showcase their products. "At the same time, we will also hold seminars, promotions and talks on Sarawak's potential from various fields. What can be invested in Sarawak?" He said this when interviewed by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) while visiting the Sarawak Pavilion at the Singapore Expo in conjunction with the Food & Hotel Asia-Food & Beverage (FHA-F&B) 2025 on Thursday. He explained that apart from highlighting local products, the Sarawak Mega Fair also aims to promote the tourism sector in Sarawak. "We want more tourists from Singapore or abroad to come to Sarawak. "There are many opportunities to see and get to know Sarawak at the Sarawak Mega Fair," he shared. He did not rule out the possibility that the exhibition would also be held at other Sarawak Trade, Investment and Tourism offices after Singapore. Meanwhile, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi advised local entrepreneurs to penetrate the Singapore market. He said, STATOS together with the Sarawak Ministry for International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) are ready to help provide advisory services and so on to any entrepreneurs who are interested in expanding their products in the country. Regarding FHA-F&B 2025, he said it was the fourth time STATOS had participated in the exhibition which aimed to showcase Sarawak products to the foreign market as well as to seek trade potential with other industry players. "This is the inspiration of the Sarawak Premier to promote the state, which is why STATOS was established. "Over the past five years, Sarawak has become more and more well-known. FHA-F&B 2025 Boosts Global Market Penetration Of Sarawakian Products |
SINGAPORE: Asia's largest food and beverage trade fair, Food & Hotel Asia-Food & Beverage (FHA-F&B) 2025 held in Singapore is the best platform to market Sarawakian products to the global market. Advisor to the Sarawak Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED), Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais said Singapore is one of the best gateways in Southeast Asia to promote products from Malaysia, especially from Sarawak in this region including to Saudi Arabia and Europe. He said that with a population of over 4 million in Singapore, it provides a large market for products from Sarawak. "A trade and exhibition programme like this held in Singapore is very appropriate to showcase and promote food products with halal certification from Malaysia, including our products from Sarawak. "Our products can be exported to foreign countries such as Indonesia, Europe, Saudi Arabia and many more," he said when interviewed by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) while visiting the Sarawak Pavilion booth at the Singapore Expo on Thursday. Also present were Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operation), Datu Hii Chang Kee and Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Trade, Investment and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS), Chew Chang Guan. Dato Sri Mohd Naroden added that the global market today is getting bigger with the increase in the world's population every year. This has made the need and demand for essential goods including food products increasingly increasing, he said. In this regard, he congratulated STATOS for successfully showcasing selected food products from Sarawak at the FHA-F&B 2025 held from April 8 to 11. According to him, all products from Sarawak displayed at the exhibition are ready to be exported. "I hope that those interested from Singapore and even Malaysians who are here, will come visit the Sarawak Pavilion to see our products on display and consider buying Sarawak products or bringing them abroad," he added. A total of 19 exhibitors from Sarawak are participating in FHA-F&B 2025 to promote various products including processed bird's nest, coffee, tea from midin vegetables, white and black pepper, Sarawak laksa paste, empurau fish and many more. -UKASnews |

Pelajar Luar Bandar Disaran Kuasai Bahasa Inggeris |
SPAOH: Pelajar luar bandar disarankan berusaha untuk menguasai Bahasa Inggeris. Timbalan Premier Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas berkata, penguasaan Bahasa Inggeris akan membolehkan pelajar menghadapi cabaran dunia moden yang semakin mencabar. "Dengan menguasai bahasa ini, anda akan dapat berkomunikasi dengan masyarakat di seluruh dunia serta mengikuti perkembangan terkini dunia. "Peluang untuk mendapatkan pekerjaan yang baik juga akan menjadi lebih cerah," katanya ketika berucap merasmikan penutupan Program Karnival Bahasa Inggeris di Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Nanga Gayau, di sini pada Khamis. Enam sekolah rendah dalam kawasan Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Bukit Saban telah menyertai program selama dua hari itu yang bertujuan memupuk minat serta kecemerlangan dalam Bahasa Inggeris, di bawah naungan beliau. Dalam ucapan sama, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah turut menjelaskan bahawa Premier Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg amat komited memastikan Bahasa Inggeris dijadikan bahasa kedua wilayah ini. Menurutnya, Sarawak juga kini merupakan satu-satunya wilayah di Malaysia yang melaksanakan Program Dwi Bahasa dalam sistem pendidikannya. Sehubungan itu, beliau menyeru agar ibu bapa tidak ragu-ragu menghantar anak mereka ke Sekolah Menengah Antarabangsa Yayasan Sarawak di Kuching sekiranya terpilih. “Saya dimaklumkan ada ibu bapa enggan menghantar anak mereka ke sekolah berprestij itu kerana faktor jarak. Ini amat mendukacitakan kerana masa depan anak-anak bergantung kepada tahap pendidikan dan penguasaan bahasa Inggeris yang baik,” ujarnya. Menyentuh mengenai cadangan penubuhan Sekolah Menengah Antarabangsa Betong di bawah Yayasan Sarawak pula, beliau memaklumkan bahawa kerajaan Sarawak masih mencari lokasi yang paling strategik untuk pembinaannya. Selain itu, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah turut mengumumkan bahawa tender untuk pembinaan dewan baharu dan lebih besar di SK Nanga Gayau dijangka dibuka bulan depan, dengan kos anggaran RM900,000. Beliau juga mendedahkan bahawa jalan akses baharu bernilai RM300,000 sedang dibina untuk sekolah tersebut, manakala sebanyak RM2.7 juta telah diluluskan untuk pembinaan jejambat ke sekolah yang merentasi Lebuhraya Pan Borneo. Tambahnya lagi, Agensi Pembangunan Bahagian Betong telah memperuntukkan sebanyak RM3 juta untuk membantu pembangunan semua sekolah dalam kawasan Bukit Saban. Terdahulu semasa berucap, Ahli Parlimen Betong, Dato Dr Richard Rapu juga menyeru para pelajar supaya memupuk rasa cinta terhadap Bahasa Inggeris. “Bahasa Inggeris bukan sekadar satu mata pelajaran dalam jadual waktu harian. Cintai, kembangkan, dan amalkan penguasaannya. “Ia adalah kunci untuk membuka banyak pintu peluang kerana ia merupakan bahasa global,” ujar beliau. Sarawak, Kanada Kukuhkan Kerjasama Dalam Pembangunan Tenaga |
KUCHING: Kerajaan Sarawak dan Kanada terus memperkukuhkan kerjasama khususnya dalam pembangunan tenaga mampan di antara kedua-dua pihak. Pesuruhjaya Tinggi Kanada ke Malaysia, Jodi Robinson berkata, kedua-dua pihak kini mempunyai hala tuju yang sama iaitu untuk memastikan pembangunan tenaga yang mampan dengan memanfaatkan sepenuhnya sumber yang ada bagi merangka langkah seterusnya dalam kerjasama ini. “Kunjungan hari ini adalah untuk mengukuhkan hubungan antara Kanada dan Sarawak di mana kita mempunyai banyak persamaan dari segi kekayaan sumber tenaga dan kedua-dua pihak sangat menumpukan kepada pembangunan mampan, tenaga mampan, dan saya percaya terdapat banyak bidang di mana kita boleh bekerjasama. “Jadi pertemuan ini adalah sebagai pengenalan untuk memahami dengan lebih baik jenis kerjasama yang diutamakan oleh Premier Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg dan bagaimana Kanada boleh kembali dan meningkatkan kerjasama antara Sarawak dan Kanada serta antara negara dan rakan kongsi kita,” ujar beliau. Beliau berkata demikian ketika ditemui pemberita selepas mengadakan kunjungan hormat kepada Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari, di Wisma Bapa Malaysia, di sini, pada Jumaat. Mengulas lanjut, Jodi memberitahu, Premier Sarawak menyambut baik kerjasama ini, dengan kemungkinan kemasukan syarikat-syarikat dari Kanada untuk datang ke Sarawak pada masa hadapan untuk memulakan kerjasama dalam pelbagai bidang yang diutamakan oleh wilayah ini. Menyentuh mengenai kerjasama dalam sektor perlombongan, Jodi menjelaskan setakat ini masih belum ada perkembangan baharu, namun beliau yakin dengan pengalaman negara beliau dalam industri tersebut, kerjasama ini dapat diteruskan. “Tiada perkembangan buat masa ini, tetapi sudah tentu Kanada mempunyai banyak pengalaman, termasuk British Columbia, dalam bidang perlombongan. “Oleh sebab itu, saya rasa banyak perkara yang boleh kita lakukan bersama dalam industri perlombongan,” ujar beliau lagi. -EDISI UKAS |

Youths Urged To Explore Entrepreneurship & Innovation |
KUCHING: Youths are urged to emerge as key drivers in achieving the region's development vision by 2030 through entrepreneurship and innovation. Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said that under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, one of the main pillars that is emphasised is human capital development. In this regard, Sarawakians need to be prepared with skills, creative thinking and an entrepreneurial spirit to face the challenges of a world that is increasingly technology-based. "Entrepreneurship is not just about opening a business, but more than that. It involves the ability to see opportunities behind challenges, as well as solve important problems that exist whether in school, in the community or at the global level. "We need young entrepreneurs because they are the generation that will drive future industrial development, bring technological advancements and build a sustainable economy," he said. He said this when opening the Entrepreneurship Workshop organised by the Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, here on Saturday. Datuk Francis added that this workshop is not just a learning programme, but an important platform to spark interest in the field of entrepreneurship. He also expressed his confidence that among the workshop participants, there are future entrepreneurs, inventors and leaders who can bring about big changes to Sarawak. "I encourage all students to dare to think outside the box, actively ask questions and collaborate. "Skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving and communication are important assets that can be used in various fields," he added. The programme, which brought together more than 100 secondary school students from around Kuching and Bau, is in line with the Sarawak government's desire to build a sustainable and competitive economy through the active participation of the younger generation in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship. Among the schools involved were SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor, SMK Matang Jaya, SMK Green Road, SMK St. Thomas, SMK Batu Lintang, SMK Pending, SMK (A) Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab and SMK St. Joseph. Cooperation Between Leaders & Government Agencies Crucial To Achieve Common Goals |
SIBU: Close cooperation between political leaders and government employees in carrying out their duties is an important aspect in achieving common goals and ensuring the satisfaction of the entire community. Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee admitted that meeting the needs of all parties is not easy, let alone ensuring the satisfaction of the entire community. However, he stressed the importance of close cooperation between political leaders and government employees, despite different approaches, in order to achieve a common goal, which is to meet the needs of the people. “Although the approaches used may be different, what is important is the impact and results of the work that meet the needs of the people as a whole. “That is the goal, objective and trust that we must shoulder as leaders and civil servants,” he said when speaking at the Majlis Berlanggar Meja Warna-Warni Riang Hari Raya Aidilfitriq organised by the Sibu Division Government Members’ Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK) on Friday. He also described the organisation of the event as the first of its kind since he became the people’s representative in Sibu, and congratulated the Resident’s Office and all departments involved for the success of organising the major programme. Highlighting the value of harmony in Sarawak, he stressed that the state has always practised the concept of tolerance and close cooperation between races. He also suggested that such events should also be organised during the Gawai Dayak, Christmas and Chinese New Year celebrations as an effort to strengthen ties among government employees. “We in Sibu still have a lot of work to do and this can only be achieved through the cooperation of all parties – from community leaders to department heads,” he added. He concluded his speech with a prayer that the existing cooperation could be strengthened for the smooth development of Sibu town and once again congratulated all those involved in the success of the event. Approximately 3000 attendees consisting of civil servants and families enlivened the event. The event was also filled with the Best Agency Raya Stall Competition, Raya Song Performance by the MAKSAK Choir, Open Karaoke Raya Song and Rascom Camp Band Performance, Best Dressed Jejaka Segak (Male) and Jelitawan Ayu Raya (Female) and Children and Lucky Draw. There were 24 stalls competing, and five stalls were selected by the jury to win the best stall. Among them were the Sibu Municipal Council, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MySED), the Land & Survey Department, the Sibu Water Board and the Department of National Unity and National Integration. Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Minister of Public Health and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, Bawang Assan Assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Ngemah Assemblyman Anyi Jana, as well as Sibu Division Resident and Sibu Division MAKSAK Chairman Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman. -UKASnews |
