Turut hadir ialah Ahli Parlimen Betong Dato Dr. Richard Rapu, Pengarah Institut Latihan Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia Kuching Musaropah Sapihis, Pengarah Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Sarawak Semawi Mohamad, Penolong Tadbir Menguasa, Pejabat Daerah Kecil Debak Mohamad Khairurani Mohamad Ibrahim, dan Tuai Rumah Jembat Meramat.-EDISI UKAS

Karnival Kesihatan Dekatkan Perkhidmatan Kepada Komuniti Rumah Panjang

RM11 Million Allocated To Rebuild Maternal & Child Health Clinic In Debak

DEBAK: The Sarawak Government remains steadfast in strengthening rural healthcare services with a funding allocation of RM11 million for the complete reconstruction of the Maternal and Child Health Clinic in Debak. The announcement was made by Deputy Minister for Community Wellbeing Development and Saribas Assemblyman, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, during the launch of the Sarawak Heritage Healthy Lifestyle Carnival 2025. The event was organised by the Ministry of Health Malaysia’s Training Institute (ILKKM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), and held at Rumah Jembat, Ulu Dit, on Friday. According to Datuk Razi, the current clinic building, constructed in 1973, is in a dilapidated condition and no longer suitable for long-term use. “The original building is made almost entirely of timber—about 99 per cent. “It is now time we provide a safer, more comfortable, and modern healthcare facility, in line with Sarawak’s development vision towards 2030,” he said. He emphasised that rebuilding the facility would not only benefit the local community but also enhance the efficiency of healthcare service delivery for rural populations. Datuk Razi expressed his hope that the funds would be channelled efficiently through the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), and that the construction project could begin as soon as possible with a building design that is both suitable and practical. During the event, he also extended his appreciation to ILKKM and the healthcare personnel involved in organising the inclusive carnival, which brought together nurses, medical assistants, and healthcare students from diverse backgrounds, including those from Peninsular Malaysia, who stayed overnight in the longhouse with the local residents. “Programmes like this reflect a ‘people-friendly approach’, perfectly aligned with the state government’s outreach initiatives, which prioritise direct community engagement in matters of health and wellbeing. “Sarawak places great importance on the health of its people. Infrastructure development is meaningless if our people are unwell and unable to thrive. That is why the state government takes this matter very seriously,” he added. The Sarawak Heritage Healthy Lifestyle Carnival 2025 featured a variety of activities including free health screenings, public health talks, interactive exhibitions, and emergency response demonstrations—offering tangible benefits to the residents of Ulu Dit. The participation of various communities including the Iban, Malay, and Chinese further underscored the spirit of unity and inclusivity in advancing shared public health goals. Also present were Betong Member of Parliament, Dato Dr Richard Rapu, Director of ILKKM Kuching, Musaropah Sapihis, Director of the Sarawak Social Welfare Department, Semawi Mohamad, Assistant Administrative Officer from the Debak Sub-District Office, Mohamad Khairurani Mohamad Ibrahim and Tuai Rumah Jembat Meramat. -UKASnews

Sarawak Flag Replica Made From Recycled Plastic Bottles Showcases UDLP Community’s Innovation & Patriotism

BELAGA: Innovative, sustainable, and filled with heartfelt love for the state, these are the values reflected by the community of Uma Daro Liling Padong (UDLP), who successfully created a replica of the Sarawak Flag using 880 used plastic bottles. The project was carried out in conjunction with the Sarawak Day 2025 celebration and the community’s participation in the Anugerah Desa Madani (ADM) 2025. This creative initiative, fully led by the UDLP Women’s Bureau, not only highlights the ingenuity of a rural community but also delivers a clear message on the importance of environmental sustainability and practising a greener lifestyle through recycling. Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, who is also the Belaga Assemblyman, Datuk Liwan Lagang, praised the effort, saying it reflects the community’s deep love for Sarawak and their concern for environmental preservation. “Their innovative work in producing this replica of the Sarawak Flag is truly impressive and reflects their love and loyalty for the state. “The effort to beautify and maintain the cleanliness of the longhouse environment deserves recognition, as it creates a healthy atmosphere and instils the value of cleanliness in the younger generation. “Education begins at home with the family. This too is a form of patriotism. Congratulations and well done to the mothers of UDLP,” he said. Meanwhile, UDLP Women’s Bureau Chairperson Alice Laing shared that the process of creating the replica took nearly a week. It began with collecting, cleaning, and painting the bottles in the official colours of the Sarawak Flag before arranging them into a large-scale structure. “We chose to use recycled plastic bottles as the main material to demonstrate that what is often considered waste can actually have great potential when creatively repurposed. “Beyond enlivening the Sarawak Day celebration, this initiative also serves as a platform for community education on the importance of recycling practices,” she explained. She added that the project also contributes to informal education among residents, particularly the younger generation, by nurturing environmental awareness and cultivating a love for the state. At the same time, Village Chief (Maren Uma) Huvang Liah described the initiative as a catalyst for raising awareness among villagers about the importance of environmental conservation. “Using discarded bottles to create this flag sends a clear message to the community about the role of recycling in daily life. “It also helps reduce material waste and shows that with a little creativity, discarded items can be given a new lease of life. “Furthermore, it symbolises the community’s patriotic spirit in celebrating Sarawak Day on 22 July, while demonstrating their readiness ahead of the ADM evaluations,” he added. -UKASnews
