KUCHING: The implementation of water, electricity, and telecommunications infrastructure projects across Sarawak is progressing well and in line with the master plans and grid systems that have been drawn up.

Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, said the ministry, in collaboration with relevant agencies, remains committed to ensuring that the people, especially those in rural areas, gain better and more inclusive access to essential utilities by 2030.

“This is the time for us to carry out the master plans and grid systems that have already been developed, particularly for water supply infrastructure.

“We will continue to implement these grid systems and master plans across Sarawak, because our approach is inclusive—we want our rural communities to enjoy the same access to utility services provided by the government,” he said.

“Our goal is to achieve broader coverage and, if possible, full coverage by the year 2030,” he added.

Dato Sri Julaihi was speaking during the 2024 Excellent Service Awards (ACP) and Innovation Awards ceremony, held at a hotel here on Friday.

He also noted that despite various challenges and obstacles, the continuous efforts and strong cooperation among ministry officers and related agencies have enabled the successful rollout of many projects.

At the event, 12 staff members of the ministry were honoured with the Excellent Service Award (APC) for 2024, while another 126 personnel were recognised with the Outstanding Performance Appreciation (PPC) award for achieving an LNPT score of 85 per cent and above.

The evening also marked the official launch of the Guideline for Accredited Institutions on Competency Training and Examination for Main Layer and Pipe Fitter Licences, a significant step towards standardising industry competencies.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy and Petros), Dato Ibrahim Baki, Permanent Secretary of the Sarawak Ministry of Utility and Telecommunications (MUTS), Datu Jafri Lias, MUTS Deputy Permanent Secretary, Syed Mohamad Fauzi Shahab as well as heads of departments and agencies under the ministry. -UKASnews
