Wisma Melayu Sarawak To Be Ready By Third Quarter Of 2025

KUCHING: The construction project of the Wisma Melayu Islam located in Jalan Diplomatik, Petra Jaya is expected to be fully completed by the third quarter of this year. Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that the building was supposed to be completed this July, but there were improvements on the advice of Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg. “Actually, this Wisma Melayu is expected to be completed this July, but when we did a briefing regarding the progress of the implementation of this building, we saw from afar that it was beautiful with the tengkolok design, but if we looked closely, it looked like a house. “So the Sarawak Premier advised us to improve it and that is why there was a delay. “God willing, we have a target so that this Wisma Melayu will be completed in the third quarter of this year,” he said in his speech at the Samarindok Aidil Fitri 1446/2025m Ceremony organised by the Amanah Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak (AKYBMS) on Wednesday night. Education Key To Keeping Sarawak Malay Youth Competitive

KUCHING: The Malay community in Sarawak needs to equip themselves and their children with knowledge and skills to ensure they are able to compete with other races in the development of the region. Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that education is the main 'weapon' in strengthening competitiveness, especially among Malay children so that they are not left behind or left behind in the rapid development trend being driven by the Sarawak Government. "I want the Malays, especially the Malay community, to see where we stand in the future. "The world has changed, and to compete, we must dare to change our minds and equip ourselves with knowledge and skills. "That is why we in the government emphasise the importance of education. If we want to find a competitive spirit, we must equip ourselves to compete with others," he said. He said this when speaking at the Samarindok Aidilfitri 1446/2025m Ceremony organised by the Amanat Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak (AKYBMS) at a leading hotel here on Wednesday night. The Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi were also present to enliven the ceremony. Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari added that the Sarawak Government has provided various educational facilities and infrastructure in areas with a majority Malay and Bumiputera population, including access to free higher education at local universities. He explained that the ability of Malay children to compete does not depend on their background, but on their opportunities and willingness to work hard and take advantage of the education system provided. "We open this opportunity to all Sarawakians, as long as they have a 'K' identity card. Malay children should not be afraid. "They must be confident that they are able to compete and cooperate with other races in the same conditions in terms of finances and knowledge," he explained. Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari insisted that change can only be achieved when there is awareness and willingness within a race to improve itself, in line with the principles mentioned in the Quran. "Allah will not change the fate of a race, unless the race itself changes its fate. So I believe, Malays can do it,” he said. Also present were the wife of the Sarawak Premier, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma'ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Sarawak Cabinet Ministers, Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Deputy Ministers, AKYBMS Deputy Chairman, Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais, AKYBMS Charitable Trust General Manager, Datu Dr. Sanib Said and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews

Sarawak A True Model Of Unity In Diversity

KUCHING: The concept of 'Segulai Sejalai' which means in Iban language, living together in unity, is very synonymous with the way of life in Sarawak. Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said, Sarawak is not just a tourist destination, but is the best reflection of the true value of “Unity in Diversity”, making this state a unique example in the diverse ASEAN landscape. “In Sarawak, the Iban proverb 'Segulai Sejalai' is not just a slogan, but a daily practice of the multi-racial and multi-religious community who together enjoy the progress and prosperity of this state,” he explained. He said this during the 33rd ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council (ASCC) Meeting Welcoming Dinner here on Wednesday night. He added that this spirit is evident in the celebration of various festivals such as Gawai, Hari Raya, Christmas and Chinese New Year which are celebrated together regardless of background. Dato Sri Tiong added that Sarawak, which is home to 34 ethnic groups, is also being held up as a model of harmonious unity in a plural society. The Bintulu MP also invited ASEAN delegates to witness this value for themselves during their visits to cultural heritage sites such as Annah Rais and the Sarawak Cultural Village. The colourful cultural evening also featured a variety of Sarawak traditional dishes and art performances, thus strengthening the state's image as a vibrant and dynamic cultural tourism hub in the region. With the theme 'Segulai Sejalai' as its main thrust, Sarawak once again proves that diversity is not an obstacle, but rather a strength in building a united regional community. - UKASnews

Medong-Lebrasau-Klid Road Construction Targeted For Completion By January 2026

MUKAH: The dream of the residents of Kampung Klid and Kampung Plajau to have road access to Dalat Town is about to come true when the Kampung Medong/Lebrasau/Kampung Klid Road Construction Project now reaches completion of 48.56 per cent. The high-impact project, which is expected to be fully completed by the end of January 2026, will end the community's dependence on water transportation, which has been their only main link to date. During a working visit to the project site on Wednesday, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas expressed concern over the more than 70-day delay recorded by the project, but assured that an immediate solution is being formulated with the contractor. “This project has been delayed by more than 70 days and this is quite worrying. However, we will find an immediate solution to ensure that this road is completed on schedule. “We have also discussed with the contractor so that the issue is resolved and the project is completed in January next year,” he told the media. The scope of this project involves the construction of a new road along 11.5 kilometres, a spur road along 0.17 kilometres and the construction of three bridges across Batang Oya. This route will connect Dalat District with Kampung Klid, Kampung Plajau and Sekolah Kebangsaan Klid/Plajau. Currently, villagers still have to take a speedboat about 30 minutes from the end of Jalan Dalat–Lebrasau to get to their respective homes. Their vehicles are usually parked at the Dalat/Lebrasau water intake area. Datuk Amar also instructed the contractor to redouble their efforts and ensure that coordination between all stakeholders is carried out more systematically in order to meet the project implementation period. Also present during the visit were Deputy Minister of Economy, Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib, Mukah Division Resident, Datu Kueh Lei Poh and other guests. -UKASnews
