MUKAH: The Batang Igan Bridge construction project, which is currently being implemented, has now reached 82 per cent completion, thus giving a positive indication of the Sarawak Government's continued efforts in bridging the rural infrastructure gap.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the progress of the project was very encouraging with targeted full completion by November 2025.
“We are very satisfied with the progress so far. There is only 18 per cent left to complete. We have told the contractors that every month they must complete at least three percent.
“With the target and timeline, we are confident that this project will be completed on schedule,” he said during an official working visit to the project site here on Monday.
This project involves the construction of a 1,439.4-metre bridge with a two-lane one-way design (single carriageway) according to JKR R5 specifications which can accommodate daily traffic flow more smoothly and safely.
Meanwhile, he also stressed that regular monitoring is very important to avoid any unexpected delays.
“We are actively going to the field to ensure that all our projects are implemented on schedule. We want to identify problems before they become major obstacles,” he explained.
So far, the bridge project has not faced any major issues and is progressing according to the set plan.
Meanwhile, JKR Sarawak stated their continued commitment in delivering high-quality infrastructure projects, especially to ensure the comfort and prosperity of the rural people.-UKASnews
