More TVET Workers Needed to Sustain Sarawak's Growing Economy |
BINTANGOR: Sarawak needs more skilled local workers, especially in technical fields or TVET, to sustain its growing economy. The recognition of Sarawak as a high-income state by the World Bank has proved that Sarawak’s economy is on a strong and stable footing. Meradong Assemblyman and Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) trustee, Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, emphasised that education is crucial to ensuring that future generations can continue to govern the country effectively with the need for more TVET workers across various industries. “One significant contribution to a robust economy is having a diverse economic base and a highly skilled and educated workforce. However, our state still needs skilled local workers, especially in technical fields or TVET. “Through today's programme, we can see the efforts made by the Sarawak State Government through TEGAS in helping develop human capital in our state,” he said during the Opening Ceremony of the Project Of Dream Realised (PRO-DR) Roadshow Series 9, 2024, held at Bintangor Community Hall on Saturday. The PRO-DR programme is an educational and career carnival roadshow organised by the Sarawak State Government through TEGAS, with support from the Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS). According to Datuk Ding, this edition of the roadshow will involve more than 25 educational and training institutions, government agencies, and financial aid providers to help students in Bintangor get information about education. “The main objective of this programme is to help rural students achieve their dream careers through education, regardless of academic qualifications. “Therefore, I urge students and parents to seize the opportunity by visiting the TEGAS exhibitions, as it is time for STPM and SPM leavers, as well as Form 4, 5, and 6 students, to plan their courses and fields of study,” he said. Also present were the Representative of the Sarikei Resident, Moses Ta'ia, Meradong District Officer, Thomas Geoffrey Kendawang, Senior Manager of TEGAS Community Innovative Learning, Representing the Chief Executive Officer of TEGAS, Fredick Kevin Buseli, Deputy District Education Officer of Meradong, Nassarudin Ibrahim, and Department Heads and Community Leaders of Meradong District. -UKASnews |
