KUCHING: Sarawak has the potential to become one of the key players in enhancing the national defence industry.
Army Eastern Field Commander, Lieutenant General Dato Mohd Sofi Md Lepi said, Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg is a visionary leader that has placed emphasis not only on economy development but also to improve the state’s security.
“We feel very fortunate because through the Sarawak Defence Package offered by the Sarawak Premier, it helps us to obtain equipment that utilises existing technology.
“So, perhaps Sarawak has a mission to enhance the defence industry of our country,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after making a courtesy call on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at the Astana Negeri Sarawak here, on Friday.
Dato Mohd Sofi added, the courtesy call aimed to extend an invitation to the Sarawak Governor to attend the Defence Service Asia Exhibition and Conference (DSA) 2024 and the National Security (NATSEC) Asia 2024 Exhibition that will be held from May 6 to 9 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur.
He also extended invitations to Sarawakians to attend the event where DSA 2024 will feature 512 exhibitors from over 50 countries showcasing the latest developments in military equipment, enforcement agency tools, and safety gear. -UKASnews
