KUCHING: Songket Sarapride, the Vocational Industrial Centre (PVI) at Puncak Borneo Prison, has caught the eye of Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin.
Her Majesty graciously visited Songket Sarapride on Thursday to witness firsthand the intricate process of weaving and the exquisite finished products of songket fabric.
Arriving at 10 am, Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin was warmly welcomed by Datin Melinda Claudia Bucking, the wife of Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts II.
Also present to greet Her Majesty were Sarawak Media Group (SMG) Chairperson, Dato Norhyati Ismail, Sarawak State Public Service Commission Chairperson, Datu Dr Sabariah Putit, and Director of the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) Sarawak, Noor Seela Noor Sulaiman.
The royal visit commenced with a briefing by Inspector Zul Fikri Muhamat, Assistant Head of the Vocational Industrial Unit at Puncak Borneo Prison.
Following the briefing, Her Majesty toured the songket weaving area, where she observed a live demonstration of the intricate weaving process carried out by the clients of Puncak Borneo Prison.
After witnessing the songket creation, Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin visited the exhibition hall, which showcased a variety of beautifully crafted songket fabrics. The visit concluded with a brief luncheon at Puncak Borneo Prison.
Her Majesty spent around an hour at the centre before departing for her next royal engagement, a visit to Kek Lapis Warisan Sdn Bhd. -UKASnews
