KUALA LUMPUR: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) showcased its significant accomplishments at the Green City Investment Forum held in Kuala Lumpur, where MPP Chairman, Tan Kai, was invited to speak during Plenary Session 1.
The session centred on the development and execution of Green City Action Plans (GCAP) across Malaysia, with MPP being the first local authority in Sarawak to pioneer and implement such a plan.
In his presentation, Tan Kai shared key insights from Padawan’s GCAP, underscoring the council's efforts to reduce carbon emissions and tackle climate change within its jurisdiction.
He also highlighted MPP’s dedication to environmental sustainability, which aligns with both Sarawak's Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and Malaysia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).
“Padawan’s GCAP is a testament to our commitment to supporting state and national environmental policies. We are deeply grateful for the backing of both the Sarawak and Federal Governments in helping us realise this vision. MPP is determined to make Padawan, Sarawak, and Malaysia greener and more sustainable places to live,” Tan Kai remarked.
Tan Kai’s presentation also addressed several challenges, particularly the need for enhanced financial support for climate action and resilience projects.
He urged both the public and private sectors to increase investments in climate-related initiatives to ensure the success of Padawan’s Climate Action Plan.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of public awareness and active stakeholder engagement in meeting the ambitious goals outlined in Padawan’s GCAP, calling for greater collaboration in the drive toward a greener future.
The Green City Investment Forum served as a platform for cities across Malaysia to discuss innovative approaches to sustainable urban development and climate resilience, with MPP’s achievements drawing attention as a leading example. -UKASnews
