POZNAN: Real efforts should be taken to strengthen the relationship between the Wielkopolska Region of Poland and Sarawak.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg suggested that a student exchange programme between universities in the region and Sarawak be a way to create better understanding between people of both areas.

He said this during a dinner speech on Thursday, to thank the Marshal of the Wielkopolska Region, Marek Wozniak who had invited him to take part in the third Central Europe Hydrogen Forum as a panel speaker.

He then extended an invitation to the Marshal to visit Sarawak not only to attend conferences but also to know Sarawak and its green aspirations better.

According to him, Sarawak in the near future would be hosting world conferences that would include the International World Water Congress and Exhibition in 2028.

The Marshal in a return speech thanked the Sarawak Premier for accepting his invitation to speak at the forum and shared Sarawak's experiences in its green and decarbonisation initiatives.

He pointed out that other areas of the world, Sarawak in particular, also shared the same climate change concern as Europe and should together act to mitigate climate change.

He also said that efforts should be taken to strengthen cooperation between Poznan and Sarawak with the common objective of ensuring a sustainable earth.

In reply to the Sarawak Premier’s invitation, he said he would be glad to visit Sarawak if the situation permitted.

Later, the two leaders exchanged gifts.

The Sarawak Premier was accompanied by his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Ambassador of Malaysia to Poland, Dato' Chitra Devi Ramiah, Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and Chief Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Fazzruddin Abdul Rahman. -UKASnews
