KUCHING: The Proposed Kapit Bus Terminal project has been approved with a scheme value of RM30 million.

Sarawak Minister for Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said currently under the 12th Malaysia Plan, RM1 million ceiling is provided for the project.

This is for the purpose of paying consultancy fees, site selection and preliminary design for the construction phase, he said.

“The physical project will be implemented under the 13th Malaysia Plan,” he said during his ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly Sitting on Monday.

On another matter, Dato Sri Lee noted that the stage bus service between Sibu and Selangau was discontinued by the bus company involved as its 81-kilometre (km) route is not eligible under the current RM1 subsidy policy.

He explained that effective January 2024, the policy only benefits stage bus routes below 40 km.

“However, my ministry will review the performance of the RM1 subsidy programme and develop new initiatives and programmes for the public, including the routes from Sibu to Selangau, under the upcoming 13th Malaysia Plan,” he said. -UKASnews
