KUCHING: The Foreign Workers Transformation Approach (FWTA) system owned and developed by the Sarawak Government is in the process of being integrated with the Malaysian Immigration System (MyIMMs) owned by the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

According to Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, this is done following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with between the Immigration and Labour Management Unit (ILMU) and the Federal Government through the Immigration Department.

He said the MoU entailed systems integration, data sharing, and other matters relating to managing and coordinating immigration affairs in Sarawak which is a key component of the FWTA system.

“This will contribute further to improving the speed of processing and transparency of all applications received.

“With this integration, the Sarawak Government will have a complete and comprehensive set of data that can be used to analyse and assist the government in facilitating the decision-making process relating to immigration and labour,” he said during his ministerial winding-up session at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly Sitting on Monday.

Dato Sri John Sikie explained that the implementation of FWTA which consists of a digital platform and infrastructure development will significantly improve the efficiency and transparency of the recruitment process for non-resident workers and reduce the time for approval of applications.

This will transform the current process for the recruitment of non-resident workers, he added. -UKASnews
