KUCHING: PETROSNiaga, a local company owned by PETROS with a 51 percent shareholding and PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (49 percent) is now successfully carrying out its responsibilities as the sole distributor of subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Sarawak.
Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi informed that the members of PETROSNiaga's Board of Directors consist of two representatives of PETROS Directors and two representatives of PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) Directors.
"In an effort to ensure comprehensive monitoring of all activities involving subsidized LPG cylinders, my ministry has actively collaborated with various agencies including the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), the Fire Department and Malaysian Rescuers, Local Authorities, Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), General Operations Force (PGA), Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Customs and other related agencies," he said.
He said this while wrapping up the debate for his ministry at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly Sitting on Monday.
Dato Sri Julaihi added that the process of converting yellow LPG cylinders to PETROS LPG cylinders on a 'one-to-one' basis without any additional charges is still continuing.
"Until October 2024, PETROSNiaga has successfully converted 690,000 units of yellow LPG cylinders to PETROS LPG cylinders.
"Now there are about 1.8 million LPG cylinders subsidized by PETROS in the market throughout Sarawak," he added.
He said, the move is expected to strengthen consumer access to subsidised LPG while ensuring more efficient distribution and control in the state. - UKASnews
