KUCHING: Baleh Assemblyman, Nicholas Kudi Jantai has called for additional allocations to be channelled for the perimeter surveying process of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land in his area following increasing demand from landowners who are still waiting for their land to be surveyed.

According to Nicholas, the existing allocation was insufficient to meet the current demand in addition to the lack of manpower to carry out work on the ground.

"Measurement works require a lot of manpower in Baleh and Kapit in general, which cover large areas," he said.

He said this when debating the Supply Bill (2025), 2024 during the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly Sitting on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Nicholas proposed that the Sarawak Government appoint certified and licensed surveyors to help speed up the process.

This step, he said, can complete the process of surveying the perimeter of NCR land more efficiently and effectively.

In addition, the Baleh Assemblyman also suggested that a Rural Growth Centre (RGC) be established in a strategic area in the Baleh constituency to stimulate the rural economy.

According to him, the establishment of this centre will provide economic opportunities to local residents and become a one-stop location to sell their agricultural products and livestock at market prices without relying on middlemen.

"The land area in Baleh is fertile and suitable for growing food such as vegetables, fruits and chillies. In fact, commercial freshwater fish and shrimp farming are also very suitable," he explained. -UKASnews
