KUCHING: The Taman Greenwoods housing project, developed by Ganda Hasrat Holdings Sdn Bhd, remains a pressing issue as it has been delayed for approximately eight years since its expected completion in 2016.

Located at Lot 740 in Block 5 of the Matang Land District, the private housing project, consisting of 24 units of Single Storey Semi-Detached and 51 units of Single Storey Terrace homes, was declared a "sick project" in 2021, affecting 29 house purchasers.

In a proactive effort to resolve the delays, the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak (MPHLG) held an engagement session on November 11.

The session was chaired by the Sarawak Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government (Public Health and Housing), Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.

Also present includes the Deputy Controller of Housing, Konsil Genam, the Chairman of the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Cr. Tan Kai, MPP's acting Secretary, and other key officers, as well as affected house purchasers and the developer.

During the meeting, MPHLG presented an update on the project’s progress, noting that the developer had recently secured the Road Completion Certificate from MPP.

However, to obtain the crucial Occupation Permit (OP), the developer still has outstanding requirements to meet.

MPP officials informed house purchasers about the necessary steps that the developer must follow for the OP to be issued, ensuring that purchasers can safely occupy their homes.

The affected house purchasers voiced their concerns during the session, expressing hope that the developer would swiftly comply with the requirements to expedite the OP process. They emphasised the urgency of moving into their long-awaited homes.

Datuk Michael Tiang reiterated that while government agencies are willing to support any viable solutions proposed by the developer to expedite the project’s completion, all regulatory and technical standards must be met.

"It is vital that the handover of these homes is done in a manner that ensures the safety and well-being of the purchasers," he stated.

At the end of the session, MPP formally presented the Road Completion Certificate to the developer, marking a significant step forward in the project’s progress.

MPHLG has reassured all affected purchasers that the Sarawak Government remains committed to addressing the issues surrounding Taman Greenwoods and will continue collaborating with all stakeholders to reach a positive outcome.-UKASnews
