SMD Semiconductor, CSA Catapult Ink MoU To Drive Positive Change In The Semiconductor Industry

LONDON: Sarawak Microelectronics Design (SMD) Semiconductor Sdn Bhd has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Kingdom’s (UK) Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult, a renowned organisation for compound semiconductor applications and commercialisation.

The MoU sets the stage for collaborative initiatives by fostering joint research and innovation in the UK's  compound semiconductor clusters while promoting knowledge exchange to advance semiconductor technologies, particularly in compound semiconductors.
 
According to Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, the partnership between SMD Semiconductor and CSA Catapult signifies a commitment to drive positive change in the semiconductor industry and through this collaboration, SMD Semiconductor will venture into new frontier technologies.
 
“Sarawak endeavours to accelerate the pace of innovation and propel the commercialisation of semiconductor solutions on a global scale.
 
“Towards achieving our vision for the semiconductor sector, we have established SMD Semiconductor, a homegrown government-linked company led by Shariman Jamil (as its Chief Executive Officer),” he said.
 
He said this at the MoU Signing Ceremony between SMD Semiconductor and CSA Catapult in London on Tuesday.
 
SMD Semiconductor was represented by its Shariman while CSA Catapult was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Martin McHugh.
 
Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari added, the semiconductor industry plays a pivotal role in driving innovation across various sectors, from telecommunications to automotive, and from healthcare to consumer electronics.
 
"This MoU signifies a strategic alignment as it underscores our commitment to creating a conducive environment for innovation, investment, and job creation in the technology sector,” said Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari.
 
Meanwhile, Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said, Sarawak acknowledges the profound benefit of collaboration with the UK in establishing partnerships and alliances to acquire talent and cutting-edge technology.
 
“We seek to leverage the wealth of knowledge and experience accumulated by our British counterparts.
 
“I firmly believe that as SMD Semiconductor forges strategic alliances and collaborations with leading UK industry partners, it will be instrumental in driving innovations, positioning ourselves at the forefront of semiconductor chip design technology, and paving the way for a brighter, more innovative future,” he said. -UKASnews
