KOTA SAMARAHAN: The throng of students and their families gathering for the 28th Universiti Malaya Sarawak (UNIMAS) Convocation Ceremony is testament of how UNIMAS has become a valuable option for Sarawakian students aiming for higher education without having to leave their home state.
According to Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, UNIMAS stands as one of the best options for their graduates.
“Back in my youth, studying meant going to Peninsular Malaysia – I had to go to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to further my education.
“Today, students don’t have to go far. UNIMAS provides a quality educational option close to home, making higher education more accessible,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters during the 28th UNIMAS Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday.
Furthermore, Prof Dr Ahmad Hata expressed pride in seeing UNIMAS grow into a university that welcomes over 5,000 new students each year, with more than 80 per cent of them hailing from Sarawak.
The Vice Chancellor also shared a personal milestone, mentioning that two of his own children would be among this year’s graduates.
He believes UNIMAS allows Sarawakians who may not have the means to study abroad or in Peninsular Malaysia to pursue their education at a quality institution close to home.
“We remain committed to supporting Sarawakians who wish to further their studies without the emotional and financial strain of going far,” he assured. -UKASnews
