KUCHING: The Santubong Sports League 2024, organised by the P.193 Santubong Constituency Service Centre, is part of ongoing efforts to encourage the people of Sarawak to embrace a healthy, active lifestyle.
According to the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Dato Sri Nancy Shukri, maintaining a healthy life through regular exercise and a balanced diet could help reduce chronic disease rates among women and, in turn, improve life expectancy in Sarawak.
She said the programme also aims to foster unity among the community by encouraging participants to spend quality time with friends and family through sports.
“Unity among our diverse ethnic groups can be strengthened when we work towards a common goal and show mutual respect.
“Sport serves as an excellent platform to bring people together and promote inter-ethnic harmony,” she said.
She said this during her speech at the Santubong Sports League 2024 on Sunday at Politeknik Kuching Sarawak.
The Santubong Sports League Women’s Doubles Badminton Tournament is one of the sports initiatives organised by the P.193 Santubong Constituency Service Centre to promote community cohesion in the Santubong parliamentary area as well as to inspire youth, women, and residents to adopt a culture of wellness through sports.
Highlighting the importance of Politeknik Kuching Sarawak as the tournament venue, Dato Sri Nancy noted its role in supporting the state government’s sports initiatives.
