KUCHING: The highly anticipated 2024 SADA KENYALANG: International Choral Festival and Symposium (SKICF & SKICS) promises a unique musical experience, with the Music and Words 2024 concert as its highlight.

Scheduled for Saturday, November 16, at 7.30 p.m. at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), the concert will feature the renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers (The Madz), the first choir to win two European Grand Prix for Choral Singing.

Their performance in Kuching marks their debut in Borneo, drawing international attention.

"This is a historic moment for Kuching's choral scene," said George Tay Wee Yang, Artistic Director of SKICF and Executive Chairman of Kuching City First Choir Association (KCFCA).

He noted that the event showcases local talent and original compositions, with the special appearance of The Madz making it even more memorable.

The concert will also feature the debut of two original Sarawak-themed pieces, including a Sarawak Malay dialect song arranged by a Filipino composer and a composition by George himself, inspired by the beauty of Sarawak.

Performances by Jehté Chamber Choir and Chung Hua Middle School No.1 Alumni Choir will also be showcased.

Part of the larger SKICF & SKICS, the concert joins an exciting line-up of events from November 15-17, 2024, held at key venues in Kuching such as the Borneo Cultures Museum and Hikmah Exchange Event Centre.

The event, supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP), aims to position Kuching as an international hub for choral arts and cultural exchange.
