KUCHING: Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, will officiate Masjid al-Haj, a newly built mosque in Kampung Jerijih, on November 1.
Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment, who is also the Kuala Rajang Assemblyman, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, shared that this new mosque in Kampung Jerijih, within the Kuala Rajang constituency, can accommodate up to 1,000 congregants.
The total construction cost of the mosque amounted to RM7 million.
"With this new mosque, all villages in the N.41 area have now been developed, with Jerijih being the last village to receive a new mosque.
"The funding provided under the Rural Transformation Programme was RM4.5 million, but with additional expenses for fencing and other features, the total cost of the mosque’s development is approximately RM7 million," he said after paying a courtesy call on Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi at Astana Negeri Sarawak on Monday.
Masjid al-Haj in Kampung Jerijih began construction in 2020 and was completed last year.
Various programmes will be held in conjunction with the mosque’s opening ceremony, including a congregational prayer led by Sarawak’s State Imam and a Khutbah recitation by the Sarawak Mufti.
After the mosque officiation, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi's wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, will visit the weaving centre in Kampung Rajang, about 15 minutes from the mosque.
Also present during the courtesy call were Mukah Division Resident, Datu Kueh Lei Poh, Tanjung Manis District Officer, Ismail Kasah, Special Administrative Officer to Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Datuk Mazlan Mohamad and the Director of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), Mu'al Suaud. -UKASnews
