KUCHING: The vibrant flavours and artistry of Borneo’s culinary heritage were celebrated in full force at the Art of Food event, a dynamic three-day festival held at The Borneo Hotel here.

From traditional cooking techniques and indigenous ingredients to handmade crafts and artistic expressions, the event offered a rich showcase of Borneo’s cultural tapestry.

Officiating the event was Sarawak Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who praised the initiative for spotlighting Sarawak’s unique culinary and cultural identity.

"This event provides an invaluable platform for local chefs, food artisans, and cultural enthusiasts to come together, share their knowledge, and celebrate our diverse food culture,” he said, adding that such events inspire future generations to embrace and carry forward Borneo’s culinary legacy.

The Art of Food event was jointly organised by The Borneo Hotel, the Culinary Heritage and Arts Society Sarawak (CHASS), and Kuching’s UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) Kuching City of Gastronomy, in collaboration with the What About Kuching (WAK) Festival.

Also present at the launch were CHASS Chairperson Datin Dona Drury-Wee, WAK Festival Director Donald Tan, The Borneo Hotel Director Angelia Tan, and WAK Festival Manager Brendan Chin.

The festival offered an array of immersive experiences, including live cooking demonstrations led by local chefs, hands-on crafts workshops, and curated tasting sessions.
