KUCHING: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Metro) reinforced its commitment to road safety with the launch of a Road Safety Awareness Campaign near the Rembus Depot along the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Blue Line.
This campaign, held on Thursday in collaboration with Rembus Depot contractor AIU JV—a joint venture between Azam Sehasrat Sdn Bhd, IJM Construction Sdn Bhd, and Unique Deco Sdn Bhd—aims to strengthen road safety awareness among both road users and construction workers around the KUTS project site.
This initiative has received significant backing from the Road Transport Department (JPJ), Public Works Department (JKR) Samarahan Division, Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Sarawak, Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), Samarahan District Office, Samarahan Division Resident Office, and IPD Samarahan.
The campaign’s key focus is on promoting adherence to traffic rules, safety protocols, and signages, particularly in high-traffic construction zones. This approach is designed to foster a safety-first culture that benefits both the public and construction workers in these areas.
Sarawak Metro Chief Executive Officer, Ts. Mazli Mustaffa, underscored Sarawak Metro's commitment to embedding road safety practices into the project's fabric as KUTS moves towards full implementation in Kuching and Kota Samarahan.
"Sarawak Metro will continue to promote safety habits among road users, especially those travelling along our project alignment. Observing traffic rules, road safety signages, and measures in place near construction sites is crucial,” he said.
He added that the collaboration with the contractor and related agencies is a vital part of Sarawak Metro’s broader road safety efforts.
"We are amplifying our road safety initiatives as the KUTS project gains momentum. Today’s campaign demonstrates our commitment, supported by the dedication of our contractors and partner agencies, to fostering a strong road safety culture,” Ts. Mazli concluded.-UKASnews
