LUNDU: Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (SALCRA) recruited 64 Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) to overcome the ongoing labor shortage.
Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom supported SALCRA's efforts to recruit migrant workers for tasks such as harvesting and plantation maintenance, which are crucial in improving productivity.
He welcomed the arrival of the 64 new workers in Sarawak and expressed gratitude for their commitment to contributing to the state’s agricultural sector.
Each worker is expected to contribute at least 1.5 metric tons (MT) per day, and with a full workforce, SALCRA has the potential to produce approximately 690 MT daily.
With the current market price of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) at RM700 per MT, this could generate nearly RM 500,000 in daily revenue.
Hence, SALCRA will continue working closely with relevant authorities to effectively address labor challenges and strengthen the resilience of its oil palm plantation operations.
Also present during the PMI File Handover Ceremony were SALCRA's General Manager Joseph Blandoi, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Datu Sirai Daha, Director of Sarawak Veterinary Services Department Datu Dr Adrian Susin Ambut, Director of Sarawak Department of Agriculture Dominic Chunggat , General Manager, Sarawak Rubber Industry Board Make Jiwan, General Manager, Sarawak Land Development Board Prof. Dr Harry Entebang and other honoured guests. -UKASnews
