MUKAH: A request for the construction of an indoor stadium in Mukah has been submitted to Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.

Tellian Assemblyman, Royston Valentine expressed hope that the request would be approved, ensuring local athletes to have access to a suitable venue for training and competitions.

“This facility will not only cater to athletes but also support the development of sports in the region, encouraging more youth to actively participate.”

He said this during the opening ceremony of the Open Wushu Toulu and Wushu Sanda Championship 2024 and the Sarawak Dragon and Lion Dance Art Championship 2024 held at the Mukah Polytechnic Multipurpose Hall on Friday.

Royston also expressed his happiness at seeing more youth participating in wushu, particularly with involvement from different ethnic groups, not just the Chinese.

“We hope Mukah will produce outstanding wushu athletes who will one day represent us in international competitions,” he added.

The championship was held over four days, from 17th to 20th October.

Also present at the ceremony were the Deputy President of the Sarawak Wushu Association James Ting Ing Seek, Vice President of the Sarawak Wushu Association Lyde Lait and Mukah District Officer Peleadzman Ahip. -UKASnews
