OYA: Various activities enlivened the celebration of the Oya Kaul Festival 2024, held from April 19 to 21 at the Kaul site of Kuala Hilir Oya Beach.
The event was graced by the Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar along with his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
Also present were Sarawak Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Tellian assemblyman, Royston Valentine along with his wife, and Mukah Division Resident, Kueh Lei Poh.
Upon arrival, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi visited the sea retaining wall of Kuala Hilir Oya Beach and officiated the final round of the tug-of-war competition.
Meanwhile, Toh Puan Fauziah officiated the symbolic ceremony of the netball game.
After the presentation of souvenirs by Dato Sri Fatimah, the Melanau, Iban, and Chinese communities, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi and his wife visited the exhibition booths set up by 22 government agencies and non-governmental organisations participating in this festival.
After that, they visited Lebuk Kaul Oya before departing.
The public arrived at the festival site early in the morning to witness the traditional event of a boat parade carrying ‘serahang’ to the Oya Kaul site.
A paramotor show was also held at Kuala Oya beach by five pilots from Miri. -UKASnews
