Sarawak Deputy Premier Hosts US Ambassador For Courtesy Call

KUCHING: Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, welcomed the United States Ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Edgard D. Kagan, for a courtesy call at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Thursday.

The meeting marked an important step in strengthening ties between Sarawak and the United States. 

Both leaders discussed a wide range of topics focused on enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah highlighted Sarawak’s economic potential and welcomed greater collaboration with the United States. 

He pointed out that Sarawak, with its growing digital economy and rich natural resources, offers vast opportunities for US businesses and investors.

Ambassador Kagan expressed interest in exploring ways the United States could support Sarawak's development goals, especially in sectors like technology, renewable energy, and education. 

He also praised Sarawak’s efforts to drive sustainable development through its Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

Both officials agreed on the importance of fostering closer ties and encouraged more partnerships between US companies and Sarawak-based industries. 

They also touched on cultural exchanges that could strengthen understanding and friendship between the people of Sarawak and the United States.
