KUCHING: The Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) is taking steps to integrate green technology into key infrastructure projects, particularly the road network in northern Sarawak.

In a solo session at the 7th International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2024, RECODA’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ismawi Ismuni, presented "Sustainable Development Through Green Infrastructure," highlighting the agency's commitment to sustainable growth.

Datuk Ismawi discussed the Northern Coastal Highway (NCH), a vital project by RECODA that connects communities and supports the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

He emphasised that strong road infrastructure is the foundation for creating an ecosystem that can fully embrace AI and digitalisation.

“As we embrace AI and digitisation, we must ensure roads, and digital connectivity are built. Once that is in place, communities can truly benefit from digital technologies and AI,” he said.

The 88km Northern Coastal Highway features a dual carriageway and elevated sections designed to minimise environmental impact while enhancing connectivity across northern Sarawak.

The highway also links Sarawak with Brunei, Sabah, and Indonesia, promoting regional trade and investment while prioritising environmental sustainability.

“The NCH plays a crucial role in boosting trade and investment while ensuring environmental protection,” added Datuk Ismawi.

RECODA’s involvement in IDECS 2024 reflects its ongoing support of the conference, where it also serves as a Gold Sponsor.

As the state body managing the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) Development Plan, RECODA is committed to advancing sustainable development.

Through infrastructure projects and socio-economic programmes, the agency is contributing to Sarawak’s green economy, focusing on sectors such as biomass, biotechnology, green technology, and the digital economy.-UKASnews
