KUCHING: The International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2024 (IDECS 2024) has a vital role in shaping strategies to transform Sarawak into a global digital economy powerhouse by 2030.
Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said IDECS 2024 gathered industry players including key companies, economists, policymakers, and innovators to explore the potential of technological transformation.
“As the world faces challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation, and deforestation, it is increasingly clear that advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) are essential in addressing these issues.
“This year, IDECS 2024 demonstrates our commitment to creating a future for economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability,” he said during the opening ceremony of IDECS 2024 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Wednesday.
The conference was officiated by the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN), Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Sarawak Deputy Ministers for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Datuk Liwan Lagang, Chairman of Sarawak Information Systems Sdn. Bhd. (SAINS), Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam, SDEC Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, and other distinguished guests.
Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar who is also the Chairman of IDECS 2024 added that the conference, now in its 7th edition, will highlight several key areas, including smart cities, the role of women as leaders and pioneers in the tech industry, and the emphasis on entrepreneurial and innovation skills.
“By promoting diversity and inclusion in technology, we can unlock the full potential of our talents, thereby stimulating innovation across all sectors of society,” he further explained. -UKASnews
