Sarawak To Establish AI Centre, Create Dynamic AI Ecosystem

KUCHING: In response to the growing importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in the world of technology, the Sarawak government is set to establish an AI Centre that will lead its initiatives in utilising AI and integrating it into Sarawak's digital infrastructure.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said this centre is crucial in driving innovation and positioning Sarawak as a hub for AI research and development.

He added that through strategic partnerships with academic institutions, industry leaders, and government entities, the Sarawak AI Centre is creating a dynamic AI ecosystem.

"One of the key initiatives of this centre is the 'AI for Smart Agriculture' programme, which utilises AI-powered data analytics to optimise crop yields and promote sustainability in agriculture.

"The centre is also pioneering projects in healthcare, such as predictive analytics for early disease detection, and improving energy efficiency through AI-driven smart grid systems," he said.

He spoke to officiate the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2024 (IDECS 2024) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on Wednesday.

Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari reaffirmed the Sarawak government’s commitment to implementing ethical and transparent digital strategies that enhance the quality of life for all Sarawakians.

As part of further embedding AI technology into local industries, the Sarawak Premier also launched the 'AI Talent Development Initiative'.

He explained that this initiative aims to develop a skilled workforce with advanced AI competencies, in line with the demands of future industries.

"This initiative highlights the Sarawak government’s commitment to harnessing AI as a key driver of digital transformation across various sectors,” he emphasised.

Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari also mentioned that the Sarawak government has established an AI Unit within the public service and is developing an AI data centre to enhance the government’s capabilities.

To achieve these goals, the Sarawak government will work closely with industry experts, academia, federal authorities, and international bodies to ensure meaningful contributions to AI transformation journey in the state.

Bhd.
