KUCHING:
Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi underscored his commitment to carry out site visits to monitor rural water supply projects in the state.

He said this decision to personally inspect each project is not due to a lack of trust in the reports provided by officers of the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), but rather to gain a deeper understanding of the actual conditions on the ground.

“I frequently conduct site visits, and I feel more comfortable doing these inspections alongside all parties involved, in every selected area. This does not mean I distrust the reports given, but I believe that ‘seeing is believing’, and certain issues or problems can only be resolved when we are physically on-site together,” he said.

He spoke at the JBALB Sarawak Appreciation Ceremony 2024 held here, on Tuesday.

The Sebuyau Assemblyman also cited an example from his visit to the Niah Water Plant, where he found that although water supply is currently sufficient, long-term water sources may be inadequate if the dam that was supposed to be built continues to be delayed due to contractor issues.

“This led to a mutual termination. Issues like this can only be fully assessed when we are physically on-site,” he added.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, JBALB Sarawak Director, Ir. Ts. Awg Mohammad Fadillah Awg Redzuan, and other dignitaries. -UKASnews
