KAPIT: The establishment of private international schools by the Sarawak government will provide quality education support for local students with high potential, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds.
According to Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee, the private school in Sibu in particular will initially accommodate 100 students.
He said that the number of students for that school will gradually increase, with selections made from around Sibu and Kapit.
“For the first intake, 50 per cent of the school fees will be subsidised, with plans to reduce the cost and eventually make it free.
“The funding will be adjusted based on income groups, specifically B40, M30, and M20,” he said during a Sharing Session on the Sarawak Education Initiative Programme held at SMK Selirik, here, on Tuesday.
Therefore, Datuk Dr Annuar urged parents and teachers to work together to help students excel academically so they can be selected for these private schools.
Also present were Political Secretaries to the Premier of Sarawak, Sayed Azmee Wan Junaidi and Watson Awan Jalai, representative of Bukit Goram Assemblyman, Alexson Nila, representative of the Resident of Kapit Division, Muhamad Amirullah Sulaiman, Head of the Education Division of MEITD, Donald Henry Nohed, Deputy District Education Officer of Kapit, Philip Keling, and other guests. -UKASnews
