Sarawak Targets 30 Pct Skilled Workforce By 2030

 Sarawak is targeting to achieve 30 per cent skilled workforce (or 500,000 highly skilled workers) by 2030 in line with its goal of becoming a knowledge-based economy.
 
Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said that to achieve this target, his ministry has introduced the Industry Continuous Professional Development (iCPD) Programme in Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, and Lawas this year.
 
He said the programme aims to enhance technical skills and foster collaboration among government agencies, institutions, and industries.
 
Additionally, he highlighted that the Sarawak Career and Training (SCaT) Fair is organised to disseminate information on education financial assistance for academic studies or skill-based training offered by various agencies.
 
“This exhibition indirectly enhances the employability of graduates and youths, while also inspiring interest in Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology (STEM) fields,” he said.
 
Dato Sri Roland Sagah spoke to officiate the 'Briefing on Sarawak Workforce’ organised by MEITD in collaboration with Sarawak Skills at a leading hotel here, recently.
 
According to the Tarat Assemblyman, the topics presented by speakers in this briefing are expected to significantly contribute to the implementation of the Sarawak Workforce Information System (SWIS), an online platform that collects labour supply and demand data to generate critical workforce statistics for strategic planning in the state.
 
The session saw participation from 160 individuals across various institutions and industry sectors, marking a significant step towards equipping the local workforce with relevant skills to tackle future economic challenges.
 
Also present were MEITD Permanent Secretary, Adana Jed, Senior Programme Executive of Sarawak Skills Miri Campus, Roziana Abdul Rahman, Chief Academic Officer of the Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS), Dr. Dayang Hanani Abang Ibrahim, and Senior Lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Dr. Florianna Lendai Michael Mulok. -UKASnews
