KUCHING: The Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) has set aside RM1.5 billion to fund 43 development projects aimed at improving infrastructure and socio-economic conditions in the Upper Rajang area.

Minister of Works, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, shared that these projects, currently underway, focus mainly on upgrading roads and enhancing essential services in areas such as Song, Kapit, Bukit Mabong, and Belaga.

“We have 43 projects focusing on infrastructure, with many involving road development in URDA regions. In addition, we’re working on improving water supply systems, alongside socio-economic projects designed to boost the income of local residents,” he said during a press conference after the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) Board Meeting at the Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) on Friday.

He also highlighted that out of the 43 projects, 13 have been successfully completed, including road developments in Belaga, Baleh, Kapit, Katibas, and Song.

Aside from infrastructure, Dato Sri Alexander emphasised that URDA is also focusing on improving telecommunications coverage, environmental conservation, education, and healthcare for communities in the region.

“While some of these programmes are already being handled by state departments or agencies, URDA’s role is to monitor and ensure efficient use of funds from the Sarawak Government, the Federal Government, or other sources,” he added.

Also present were URDA Deputy Chairman, Datuk Liwan Lagang, Deputy Minister for Digital Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, CEO of the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) Datu Ismawi Ismuni, and other key officials. -UKASnews
