KUCHING: The Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) must rise to the occasion and deliver a higher standard of service to the public.

According to Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, it is time for civil servants to buck up, deliver high-quality service, and prove that they are worthy of the trust and resources invested in them.

“The Premier of Sarawak constantly stressed the need to expand and enhance efficiency within SCS, acknowledging that the principle of managing public perception is critical for us and the achievement of our aspirations.

“A positive workplace culture is essential for fostering a sense of pride and ownership amongst SCS.

“With efficient systems, workplaces can become more productive and reach our goals,” he said.

He said this in the text of the speech read by Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning & Development) Datu Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel at the launch of the Sarawak Future Forum 2024 here, on Wednesday.

Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar said public service landscape frequently changes due to legislative reform, new regulations, or societal demands.

Thus, the need for continuous learning attitudes and mindsets in the SCS lineage will produce agility in the delivery of service to the rakyat.

“The Sarawak Premier this year highlighted Sarawak’s journey to becoming a green economy powerhouse, emphasising the importance of a diverse economy powered by data, innovation, inclusivity and sustainability, ensuring the state’s progress is both visionary and responsible.

“With the digital economy vis-à-vis 4IR, there is a promising trend for us in Sarawak.

“But to what extent is the SCS workforce equipped with the skills to understand and use technology to facilitate all economic sectors in Sarawak?” he asked.

He further said the current Sarawak human capital condition in the public sector faces encounters that are interrelated with the public, private, and industrial sectors. The services sector which include government services calls for innovative solutions via digital means of accelerating services.

He noted that relationships between the business, public, social, and third sectors will shift paradigms, requiring more effective collaboration.

This means that developing human capital, or more precisely, skills, is critical to the state’s socioeconomic sustainability.

The education and higher learning ten-year recovery plan is visioned by the state government with an optimistic outlook for our economy and livelihood, he added.

These far-reaching changes will require strong outcomes-based collaboration and high-impact engagements across all sectors, agencies and ministries.

“Leadership will be critical. Much will be written about the ideal future envisioned for Sarawak.

“Striving for public service excellence and long-term prosperity for Sarawak, I hope this forum will, in one way or another, provide SCS officers with some strategies for driving Sarawak’s development towards 2030 and beyond “ he said. -UKASnews
