LUNDU: The Sarawak government plans to develop its own turbines, including the production of turbine blades.

The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that the development of such turbine is specifically for the aviation and hydroelectric industries.

"That's why I suggest Swinburne University to look at the possibility of us producing our own turbines using our own blades," he said.

He spoke at a press conference after the Launching Ceremony of the Aerospace Academy at the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) Lundu on Tuesday.

Using a new design for future turbines, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari noted that the materials can be developed through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and three-dimensional (3D) technology.

"With AI and 3D, then we can produce the basic components to develop our own turbines while other basic components will also be produced," he explained.

Therefore, he said the establishment of the Aerospace Academy at CENTEXS is timely in training skilled workers, particularly in turbine production which shares similar mechanisms with the development of aircraft turbines. -UKASnews
