KUCHING: The community in Sarawak is encouraged to apply for the establishment of Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE) in their areas.

Taking into account the vast geographical and size of Sarawak, the existing number of PAWEs is deemed insufficient.

Federal Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development, Dato Sri Nancy Shukri, stated that there are currently only 13 PAWEs in Sarawak.

"These PAWE centres are for senior citizens to gather and engage in activities such as religious, recreational, and economic activities such as business.

"Aid will also be provided; the community needs to establish the center first, then they can apply for assistance not exceeding RM100,000 per year," she said.

She said this during a press conference at a gathering of the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development (KPWKM) with Target Groups at Wisma Sabati here on Saturday.

Furthermore, applications can be made to the Department of Social Welfare (JKM), and each parliament is allowed to establish more than one PAWE.

During the event, a total of 1,040 target groups were celebrated, including PAWE, the Child Protection Team (PPKK), the Child Welfare Team (PKKK), the District Department of Social Welfare (PKMB), the Community Rehabilitation Organisation Administration (PPDK), and others.

Also present to enliven the event were Sarawak Deputy Minister of Transport (Air and Road) Datuk Dr. Jerip Susil, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Sarawak (Public Health and Housing) Datuk Dr. Penguang Manggil, and Tan Sri Bustari Yusof. -UKASnews
