KUCHING: A total of 279 graduates from Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus celebrated their academic achievements at a graduation ceremony held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Thursday.
During the ceremony, 247 undergraduates received their bachelor’s degree across various fields, comprising 127 in business, 50 in computing, 47 in engineering, 15 in design, five in science, and three in media and communication.
Additionally, five students graduated with a Diploma in Business Management, one with a Graduate Diploma of Business Administration (International) and another with a Graduate Certificate of Business Administration (International).
Eighteen graduates from master’s programmes were also honoured as well as seven Doctor of Philosophy graduates.
Alongside the 279 attending graduates, 32 individuals received their degrees in absentia.
Valedictorian, Adeline Yong Qian Yi, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, reflected on her enriching experience at Swinburne Sarawak, highlighting the friendships and personal growth she gained through club activities and an exchange program.
“Of course, there were challenges along the way, but with the support and encouragement from my friends, family and the amazing Swinburne community, I was able
to overcome them and grow both personally and academically.
“It has been a journey filled with unforgettable moments and valuable lessons,” she said.
The event was presided over by Swinburne University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Pascale Quester, alongside other senior university officials.
Graduates included a diverse cohort from various countries, such as Bangladesh, Brunei, China, Egypt, and many others.
Also present at the event were Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer, Professor Simon Ridings, Vice President of Innovation and Enterprise, Dr Werner van der Merwe, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer, Ir Professor Lau Hieng Ho, members of Swinburne Melbourne’s management team, and members of the Council, Board of Directors, and Executive Group of Swinburne Sarawak. -UKASnews
