Sarawak Government Allocates RM22 Million For Aided Chinese Schools

KUCHING: The Sarawak Government remains committed in strengthening the education sector by allocating RM12 million to Aided Chinese Primary Schools and RM10 million to Aided Chinese Secondary Schools in the state.
 
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the allocation for Aided Chinese Primary Schools this year has increased by RM3 million compared to last year.
 
“This time, the allocation has been increased from RM9 million to RM12 million to support aided Chinese primary schools.
 
"In addition, another RM10 million is allocated for secondary schools, and all these aspects are taken into account for the future of our children,” he said.
 
He said this during a dinner event in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the Association of the Boards of Management of Aided Chinese Primary Schools in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on Tuesday.
 
Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari added that the State Government also recognises the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) which will allow students of Chinese school to pursue studies in strategic fields at Sarawak-owned universities by 2026.
 
“By 2026, UEC students will be eligible to pursue higher education at Sarawak universities in key fields such as satellite technology and aerospace, and this education will be provided free of charge,” he explained.
 
The Sarawak Premier also emphasised that investment in education is a key element in preparing the younger generation with relevant skills to face a world that is becoming increasingly advanced and competitive.
 
Also present were Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Minister for Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Mayor of Kuching City South, Dato Wee Hong Seng, Chairman of the Association of the Boards of Management of Aided Chinese Primary Schools in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian, Dato Jonathan Chai Voon Tok, Vice-Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Sarawak, Song Chang Hong, and other honoured guests. -UKASnews
