KUCHING: The Sarawak State Level Gawai Dayak Parade 2024 will showcase its own uniqueness as it will also be joined by a contingent from the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Sarawak Branch.
Chairman of the Sarawak State Level Gawai Dayak Parade 2024 Working Committee, Billy Sujang said that the participation of the Kadazan Dusun community, consisting of Sabahans working in the state, will further enliven the celebration of Gawai Dayak this year.
"The difference this year compared to the previous one is that we will feature the involvement of KDCA, where Sabahans working in Sarawak are also invited to participate in this parade," he explained.
He made these remarks when interviewed by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) after chairing a coordination meeting for the programme here, on Friday.
Among the interesting highlights to be included in the parade is a special performance by the Bidayuh Ring Ladies who are also invited to enhance the event.
"In addition, there will be performances, parades, decorated cars, beauty pageants, and a procession of Unduk Ngadau from the people of Sabah," he added.
Billy, who is also the Opar assemblyman, mentioned that the target number of contingents participating in the parade is 105, with a total of 3,150 participants from 12 major cultural groups in Sarawak.
For the record, the Sarawak State Level Gawai Dayak Parade 2024, scheduled for June 15, will commence at the Tun Jugah Building and conclude at the Kuching Waterfront, covering a distance of 1.28 kilometres.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg is expected to officiate the event, accompanied by Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, and the Chairman of the Gawai Celebration 2024 Main Committee, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn. -UKASnews
