KUCHING: The government continues its efforts to safeguard the welfare and ease the burden of the people in this country, especially those affected by disasters.

Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Dato Sri Nancy Shukri stated that assistances are being channelled through the Department of Social Welfare for victims attacked or killed by wild animals.

"We have provided ad-hoc aid for them to purchase food and drinks.

"But if they are found to be victims of wild animal attacks, there will be further aid available for them which is under the Department of Social Welfare,” she said.

She said this when met by the media after visiting the Search and Rescue (SAR) area for an elderly person believed to have gone missing after being attacked by a crocodile at Sungai Rayu Lundu here, on Friday.

Various local agencies have joined forces to broaden search efforts along the small rivers to find the 76-year-old individual who went missing since last Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Dato Sri Nancy said that the Unity government is currently considering plans to allocate funds to elected representatives from the members of parliament from the opposition.

"This has been discussed for a long time, but it's just the mechanism, and the opposition has been asked to discuss it with Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof.

"Now we are waiting for them to make an offer, so I don't think it's a problem, but they need to comply with what the Unity government has decided,” she added.

Also present were Field Operations Officer, Inspector Benjamin Annau Kalom, Deputy Commando of SAR Operations, Latif Iring and Junior MyASPA Officer (Operations), Mohd Nor Juli. -UKASnews
