SARIKEI: Two longhouses in Sarikei have successfully received approval for the Longhouse Loan Scheme through the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
The longhouses benefiting from this scheme are Lingga Anak Ujang Longhouse, located at Sungai Selangan, which is the largest in Sarikei with 74 doors, and Jessica Anak Patrick Longhouse, situated in the Sebangkoi area, comprising 15 doors.
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Sustainability, Dato' Sri Huang Tiong Sii, played a key role in securing approval for these loans.
According to him, Lingga Anak Ujang Longhouse was granted a loan of RM2,220,000, with each door receiving RM30,000. Meanwhile, Jessica Anak Patrick Longhouse obtained a loan of RM750,000, allocating RM50,000 per door.
“I encourage older longhouses to seek government assistance for reconstruction and to apply for the Longhouse Loan Scheme through the Housing Development Corporation (HDC),” he said during a visit to the reconstruction sites at Lingga Anak Ujang and Jessica Anak Patrick longhouses on Thursday.
Dato' Sri Huang also highlighted that the government has set aside significant funds for basic infrastructure development in Sarikei and Meradong, with the aim of improving the standard of living and ensuring the well-being of the local community. -UKASnews
