KUCHING: The Sarawak Integrated Transport Master Plan Lab was officially launched here today, bringing together representatives from 56 government agencies and the private sector to shape the future of the Sarawak's transport system.
Sarawak Minister for Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin emphasised the significance of collaboration in developing a modern and sustainable transport framework.
He said the 2025-2040 Master Plan aims to create a comprehensive framework for the development of an integrated, modern, and sustainable transport system that meets the evolving needed of Sarawak.
“While there have been various City Master Plans and Regional Development Plans in the past that touched on aspects of transport, none have fully consolidated or addressed the complexity and opportunities within the sector.
“This Master Plan aims to address that gap and chart a unified and strategic way forward,” he said when speaking to officiate the lab.
The Senadin Assemblyman noted that the transport sector is the backbone of the economy and social inclusivity, supporting key industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, tourism and services.
Hence, he said an efficient transport system will facilitate the movement of people and goods.
In line with this, he urged the participants to engage actively throughout the lab sessions while stressing the importance of their insights in creating a practical master plan.
Dato Sri Lee also expressed his appreciation to the consultants involved in the development of the master plan.
“Your expertise and dedication will help ensure that the plan is comprehensive, sustainable, forward-looking and practical to provide a blueprint that can be effectively implemented,” he said.
