BINTULU: The value of cleanliness must be instilled among children through early education.

Sarawak Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah stated that the practice of 'osoji' from Japan aims to educate children to practice cleanliness from an early age.

"At the same time, it also instills the practice of taking responsibility for their own rubbish, thus helping to maintain the cleanliness of the places where they are cared for and educated.

"This practice also educates children to prioritise cleanliness in life, including disciplining them to respect nature, humans, and the environment in which they live," she explained.

She said this while speaking at the Pertama Ferroalloys (PFA) Female Forum 3.0 here, on Wednesday.

Dato Sri Fatimah emphasised that the practice of 'osoji' is a form of long and continuous education until children become adults and fully practice managing their own waste without relying entirely on others to manage their own rubbish.

"What is important is that every child understands for themselves that cleanliness is always a priority both inside and outside the classroom, and to discipline each of them that cleanliness practices play an important role in everyday life," she said.

It is understood that 100 participants consisting of female staff from Pertama Ferroalloys and women's associations participated in the forum.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK), Datuk Rosey Yunus, Permanent Secretary of KPWK, Datu Felicia Tan, Director of Sarawak Women and Family Department, Salmah Jobeli, Member of the Board of Directors cum Managing Director of Pertama Ferroalloys Sdn Bhd, Yuki Nakamura, and Managing Director of SEDIDIK Sdn Bhd, Ayub Dahari. -UKASnews
