Sarawak Premier To Present State’s Perspective & Experience At Climate Change Forum In Poland

KUCHING: Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg is once again the flag-bearer for energy transition and initiatives against climate change from Malaysia when he travels to Poland to take part in several forums to address global climate and renewable energy concerns.
 
Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari will be speaking on the state’s perspective and its experience thus far including initiatives implemented towards energy transition, renewable energy security, decarbonisation, and environmental sustainability.
 
A statement released on Thursday stated that the Sarawak Premier will depart for Poland via the United Kingdom (UK) tomorrow upon the invitation of the Marshall of the country’s Wielkopolska Region, Marek Wozniak, organiser of the Central European Hydrogen Technology Forum and the Central European Decarbonisation Forum scheduled to be held in Poznań from April 24 to 25.
 
Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari who is also the Sarawak Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability will speak as a forum panel member in a ‘Debate Regions for the Planet’ session on April 24.
 
Among the dignitaries accompanying the Sarawak Premier are Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and Sarawak Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.
 
While on a three-day transit in the UK, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari and other members of his delegation is scheduled to visit the Drax Power Plant in Selby, North Yorkshire on April 21.
 
The plant provides 11 per cent of the UK’s renewable power needs by using biomass in the form of pellets with a generating capacity of 3,960 megawatts (MW).
 
On the following day, the Sarawak Premier will witness the signing and exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sarawak’s SMD Semiconductor and Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult at the House of Commons, UK Parliament in London.
 
Through the MoU, Sarawak seeks to forge collaboration with its UK partner to drive innovations that will reshape the capabilities and applications of compound semiconductors that are made from two or more elements as compared to silicon that is made from a single element. -UKASnews
