MUKAH: Sixty children from fishing families in Pulau Bruit and Mukah will be starting school with new school bags and stationery, thanks to donations from PETRONAS.
These contributions were made during the "PETRONAS Uplifting Lives: Program Ziarah Nelayan & CSR" event held in the area recently.
PETRONAS in a statement said this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to support the local communities and enhance safety and well-being among the region's fishing families.
Along with supporting the children's education, PETRONAS also organised a ‘Safety at Sea’ awareness talk for the local fishing communities.
The event, conducted in collaboration with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Bintulu Zone, saw 2,300 fishermen from Pulau Bruit and Mukah learning valuable safety tips to help protect themselves while at sea.
In addition to these initiatives, the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) played a key role by distributing relief supplies to fire victims, bereaved families, and less fortunate residents in the region.
The donations from PETRONAS and LKIM were officially handed over at Kampung Tekajong Community Hall, Pulau Bruit, on Thursday, in a ceremony officiated by Sarawak Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol.
A similar event took place the following day at the LKIM Complex in Mukah, officiated by Tellian Assemblyman, Royston Valentine.
PETRONAS Sarawak General Manager, Norazibah Md Rabu, and LKIM Sarawak Director, Mohamad Rizal Sahari, were present at both ceremonies. -UKASnews
