BINTANGOR: The reconstruction of Rumah Labang underscores the commitment of the Sarawak Government in ensuring the welfare and wellbeing of the people.
According to Meradong Assemblyman, Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, since the fire incident that affected 34 doors of the longhouse in 2017, the Sarawak Government has provided various funds to alleviate the burden of the residents.
Among others, Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) funds totalling RM1.397 million were channeled to rebuild the longhouse equipped with essential facilities such as water and electricity supplies.
“This included a RTP allocation this year amounting to RM150,000 to cement the front yard of the longhouse to be used as a parking area,” he said while speaking at the Thanksgiving Ceremony for the Reconstruction of Rumah Labang, Sungai Tulai, here, on Wednesday.
Datuk Ding added that RM50,000 in disaster relief funds were distributed to each household with a total allocation of RM1.7 million for the 34 doors.
The reconstruction of Rumah Labang was fully completed in 2023 after delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Also present during the ceremony were representative of the Sarikei Division Resident, Henry Gimong, Acting Meradong District Officer, Thomas Geoffrey Kendawang, Meradong District Police Chief, DSP Sekam Anoi, and Secretary of the Maradong and Julau District Council, Lau Chi Sing. -UKASnews
