Sarawak Aims To Make Bintulu Port As Key Hub In Asia

BINTULU: The Sarawak government plans to make Bintulu Port the key hub in the Asian region once the process of taking over the port is completed in June this year.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg stated that by taking over Bintulu Port from the Federal government, it would facilitate Sarawak in planning a comprehensive development of its ports covering the entire state, including the resource-rich inland areas.

"I have plans for Bintulu Port, but I can't disclose them yet. When Bintulu Port is taken over, I have plans, and it will become a key hub in this Asian region," he added.

He said this while speaking at a ‘Majlis Ramah Tamah’ organised by the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) here, on Wednesday.

In addition, he also emphasised the importance of cooperation and unity among all the people in the state to continue developing Sarawak.

"Cooperation and unity are crucial for us to generate development in our state of Sarawak," he said.

Also present at the event were Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Sarawak Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, BDA Deputy Chairman, Dato Haidar Khan Asghar Khan, and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
