MIRI: The Sarawak government, through the Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (UNIONS), is committed to promoting integrity throughout the community.
Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, said this effort supports the goal of making Sarawak a developed state by 2030.
He stressed that Community Leaders and Village Chiefs (KMKK) should lead by example to promote integrity.
“I also see the need for KMKK to monitor local development projects, ensuring they meet the required standards without any issues.
“KMKK and the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) play a crucial role in making sure development is fair and transparent.
“As community leaders, you are responsible for upholding integrity in your areas. I encourage KMKK to report any problems or delays in projects so that actions can be taken,” he said at the 14th Series Integrity Tour for Miri District at a hotel on Wednesday.
Datuk Dr Ripin also mentioned that KMKK should address social issues like crime and drug abuse, which can affect community integrity.
He added that integrity is important not just for development but also for the well-being and safety of the community.
Also at the event were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, Director of the Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit Wan Mohamad Wan Drahman, Miri Division Deputy Resident Juan Ubit, and Miri District Officer Siti Rohanie Yusof. -UKASnews
