KUCHING: The Sarawak government has approved an allocation of RM10 million to enhance healthcare services and implement the Digital Hospital Link system in the state.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said this initiative will enable all hospitals in the state to be interconnected through a digital system.

He noted that with the implementation of this system, medical records of patients from any hospital can be accessed directly by other hospitals in Sarawak.

“This means that if someone visits the General Hospital in Kuching, their records will already be available, for instance, if the patient is from Sibu, Sibu Hospital can access their records directly through this system.

“(Sarawak Deputy Premier) Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian met with me and discussed this digital link together with the Director. I asked how much was needed, and the answer was RM10 million to develop this application. So last week, we approved the allocation,” he added.

He said this during a speech at the Annual Dinner in conjunction with the 64th Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Sarawak branch, held here on Thursday.

Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari further explained that this system is part of the digitalisation of public services in Sarawak, aimed at improving the efficiency and quality of healthcare services particularly in rural areas.

Also present were Datuk Amar Dr Sim, Deputy Minister of Health, Dato Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Sarawak State Health Director, Dr Veronica Lugah, MMA President, Dr Azizan Aziz, UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, and MMA Sarawak branch Chairman, Dr Liew Shan Fap. -UKASnews
