JKR Sarawak Appointed To Oversee Maintenance Of Pan Borneo Highway In Sarawak

KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak) has been appointed to oversee the maintenance of the Pan Borneo Highway (LPB) in Sarawak.

The appointment of JKR Sarawak representing the government was made official in a ceremony together with the handover of the Letter of Acceptance (SST) for the maintenance of LPB Sarawak at the Works Ministry in Putrajaya on Wednesday.

PBH Asset Management Sdn Bhd has been appointed to carry out the maintenance with a three-year contract valued at RM69.248 million.

Speaking at the ceremony, Works Minister, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi reiterated the government's commitment to infrastructure development in Sarawak, noting that the critical role that road maintenance plays in public welfare.

"This highway is more than just a road; it is a symbol of our commitment to the people of Sarawak and our vision for the future. Together, we must ensure that it remains a source of pride and progress for generations to come," he said.

He also highlighted the importance of the ceremony, emphasising the maintenance of public facilities directly affects the lives of the people, and it is essential that this responsibility is carried out with utmost diligence.

Meanwhile, Dato Sri Alexander congratulated the PBH Asset Management Sdn Bhd while reminding them of the responsibility that the company now hold to carry out the maintenance works with full integrity and commitment.

"This contract is not just a business opportunity; it is a trust bestowed upon you by the government and the people. It must be fulfilled with integrity and commitment to excellence,” he said.

The Pan Borneo Highway, which began construction in 2015, is a significant infrastructure project spanning 829.40 km across Sarawak.

Several sections of the highway that have completed their Defect Liability Period will be handed over to PBH Asset Management Sdn Bhd in phases.

These sections will undergo routine maintenance throughout the year, including periodic pavement and non-pavement works, as well as emergency repairs as needed.

JKR Sarawak will play a key role in overseeing these operations, acting on behalf of the Government of Malaysia to ensure compliance with all contract terms.

Dato Sri Alexander stressed the importance of this oversight, highlighting JKR Sarawak's role as a strategic partner in the project.

"JKR Sarawak is not just a facilitator; it is the guardian of the highway’s integrity, ensuring that all works are carried out according to the highest standards," he noted.

Also present were Secretary General of the Works Ministry, Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad, Deputy Secretary General of the Works Ministry (Policy & Development Sector), Dato' Zahrul Hakim Abdullah, Deputy Director of JKR Sarawak (Infrastructure), Ir. Wisil Lichok and others. -UKASnews
